Focus of Practice Daniel Kaplan’s practice focuses on the defense of professional liability cases involving malpractice claims of all types against attorneys and accountants. He has also represented a variety of businesses in contractual disputes in both state and federal court. He frequently counsels accountants regarding responses to subpoenas for documents and testimony, with a focus on avoiding litigation. Mr. Kaplan has represented accountants drawn into business litigation between their clients and third parties, and has successfully resolved these matters at an early stage of the proceedings. He has represented physicians and real estate licensees in state administrative proceedings. Earlier in his career at Coughlan, Semmer & Lipman he was involved in the defense of individuals and entities on a variety of state and federal criminal prosecutions. Background Mr. Kaplan has spent his entire legal career at Coughlan, Semmer & Lipman. He was a member and an Associate Articles Editor of the Hastings West-Northwest Journal of Environmental Law. He served as an Extern to the Honorable Stuart R. Pollak, Superior Court San Francisco. Mr. Kaplan joined Coughlan, Semmer & Lipman in 1996. Accomplishments Mr. Kaplan is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and is a Barrister in the American Inns of Court Louis M. Welsh Chapter. He has served as the Co-Chair of the Discrimination-Complaints Subcommittee of the San Diego Anti-Defamation League’s Civil Rights Committee. |
