Focus of Practice Barbara Howe Murray’s practice is focused primarily on the defense of white-collar criminal and related matters, as well as complex civil business litigation. She has extensive experience in matters involving health care billing fraud, criminal tax matters, political corruption, financial institution fraud, securities fraud, as well as licensing proceedings and SEC enforcement actions. Background Before attending law school, Ms. Murray was a retail banking officer with Nations Bank (now Bank of America) where she oversaw a retail branch with $40 million in deposits. She began her legal career as a Legislative Assistant for Congressman Bill McCollum in Washington, D.C. (1992 - 1994), where she worked extensively on criminal justice issues. Ms. Murray joined Coughlan, Semmer & Lipman in 1994. Accomplishments Appointed by the U.S. District Court to the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the 1998 to 2000 term to represent individuals who were financially unable to obtain representation. As a member of the CJA panel, Ms. Murray represented approximately 40 individuals charged with felonies in federal court and successfully argued one case before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Murray served as a volunteer Deputy District Attorney in August 1998 and is an alumnus of American Inns of Court, Louis M. Welsh Inn. |
